A message from
CNO
Each year the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund hands out as many as
eight or more scholarships to deserving college-bound teens, depending
on funds available. Since County News Online was established as a
fundraising arm of the 501c3 organization, more than half of these
funds have come from CNO sponsors and donors.
Publishing a daily news, opinion and information site takes on average
35 to 40 hours a week. Some of it is volunteer; some of it is part-time
income for two paginators. We need your help to keep providing this
service.
Is it worthy of your support? One recipient who received SSSF’s first
scholarship has now graduated and teaches in an inner city school in
Indiana. Here’s what she had to say…
“I teach writing to juniors and seniors. Many of them have children of
their own, parents in prison. They come to school hungry or often, not
at all,” she said. “The encouragement and support I received from
people like the Senior Scribes made my college experience possible.
That's all I needed to earn my degree: people who believed I could do
it.
“I see everyday what happens when young people don't have anyone to
believe in them,” she added. “And that compounds my gratitude and
appreciation for the kind people in Darke County who are willing to go
the extra mile to make a difference in a child's life.”
We believe strongly that County News Online serves a purpose beyond
providing community news and information… support for our young people.
We need your help if we are to continue doing this. Please join our
current sponsors and donors with your support. Donations in any amount
are gratefully accepted. Checks may be mailed to County News Online,
P.O. Box 1113, Greenville, Ohio 45331 or use our PayPal link on the
Home Page.
