Transporting Farm Commodities
By Sam Custer
Farmers
please be aware that we are now in the
month of February and we remind you that the Frost Law applies during
the
months of February and March.
Frost
laws are seasonal restrictions on traffic
weight limits and speeds on roadways subject to thaw weakening.
In
Ohio, a farm truck or farm machinery
transporting farm commodities, from the place of production to the
first point
of delivery where the commodities are weighed and title to the
commodities is
transferred may exceed by no more than seven and one-half per cent the
weight
provisions of the revised code and no penalty prescribed in section
5577.99 of
the revised code shall be imposed.
Therefore,
this is a reminder that you do not
have the allowance of the extra 7.5% during the months of February and
March.
The
overweight allowance does not apply to a
highway that is part of the interstate system or a highway, road, or
bridge
that is subject to reduced maximum weights.
