gives overview “State of the County”
By Susi Halley
Program
Chair Christina Chalmers recently hosted Darke County
Commissioner Mike Stegall who spoke on the “State of the County.” Darke County is ranked 5th
in the country and
1st in the Midwest in jobs.
In
the last two years the county has gotten a lot done and saved money:
roof repair on the Courthouse; a new boiler at the Garst Building; work
on the
Sheriff's building and three new cars; work on the Commissioners
Building on
the roof and gutters.
For
2013 remodeling the third floor of the Courthouse and new roofs at
the fairgrounds. There
were three people
who retired and three new hires for the Animal Shelter, the EMA
Director, and
maintenance. The
economy and industry
doing well and unemployment is down.
The
Solid Waste State Convention will be held in Greenville this July.
There were nine
graduates of the first Workforce Development Course.
Mike's goals are to keep creating jobs
and to
stay the course.
