February 13
Program Chair Jim Ward introduced members of the Greenville High School
Auto Tech Program, instructors Travis Nicholas and Jim Anderson and
students Rachael Mann, Alison Richardson, and Joey Wappelhorst.
The program is project-based learning which integrates automotive
science with English and math. There is a big demand in the industry
for electrical skills due to there being 20-30 computer modules in
today's cars.
Students learn basic skills they can build on through further
education. A career track could include an associates degree in
automotive technology then specific training for a dealership.
The students demonstrated the electrical system of lights, brakes,
horn, and turn signals on a model Camero. They consistently win or
place in National Competitions.
Kiwanis is a local community service organization that meets for lunch
every Wednesday at Chestnut Community Center at the Brethren Retirement
Community. Interesting speakers on a variety of topics, from other
community service organizations to local government officials, are
presented to the group each week. All interested local residents are
encouraged to stop by and join the fun.
