GREENVILLE
– Greenville High School junior Erin
Scott received a commendation from the Greenville City School Board at
its July
9 special meeting for achieving a perfect score on her Ohio Graduation
Test
(OGT) in Social Studies.
Erin
is only one of six students in the state
to achieve this in 2013, according to reports so far.
“I
read a lot,” she said later. “I just retain
stuff like that.”
Erin
said she would like to see more history
taught in school, such as ancient civilization. “The stuff they don’t
teach
anymore,” she added.
Greenville
School Board President Cindy Scott
said she thought she read that only 320 students in the state achieve a
perfect
OGT score in 2012.
Despite
getting the perfect score in social
studies, Erin admitted science was actually her favorite subject.
“I
want to go into a medical field, something
like that. I’d really like to be a surgeon.”
Erin
wasn’t sure where she wanted to go to
college, but indicated Ohio State University or Ohio Northern as two
options.
During
the regular session the Board approved
the hiring of GHS vocal music teacher Chelsea Whirledge and Woodland
Primary
art teacher Kathleen Rizer. Both are for one-year limited contracts.
Also
approved were supplemental contracts for Scott Strain as Varsity Cross
Country
coach and Chelsea Whirledge as the GHS vocal music director.
Resignations
were accepted from Gail Hartings,
junior high intervention specialist and varsity assistant girls
basketball
coach; Angela McMurry, GHS biology teacher; Clara Miller, junior high
food
service; Aaron Winner, teacher at East Intermediate; Scott Albers,
teacher at
South Middle; Norine Veeneman, school psychologist and special
education
coordinator; and Christina Simon, junior high food service.
