GREENVILLE – Jenna King has been named Junior Fair Queen and Logan Moody Junior Fair King at the 2013 Darke County Junior Fair Pageant held at St. Claire Memorial Hall July 16. King was sponsored by Top Notch 4-H Club and Moody by Buckeye Buckaroos 4-H Club.

The members of their court are First Runner Up King and Queen Joe Schmitz, Mississinawa Valley FFA, and Lizzie Hart, Fun Bunch 4-H Club; Second Runner Up King and Queen Dylan Hesson, Versailles FFA, and Brooklyn Baker, Junior Fair Board; and Third Runner Up King and Queen Cody Fourman, Junior Fair Board, and Maddy Buscher, Versailles FFA.

“Pretty awesome,” was all Queen Jenna could say afterward. She acknowledged that the coming year was going to be a lot of work but that she was looking forward to it.

King Logan said he was shocked.

“I didn’t expect it,” he said. He added he knew he had some big shoes to fill the coming year, referring to 2012 Junior Fair King Lucas King.

Lucas said it was kind of a relief, but at the same time sadness that it’s over. He had said earlier it took him 11 months to really get comfortable and know what he was doing… now it’s almost done.

Kelsey Burchett, 2012 Junior Fair Queen, said it was sad.

“Sad to be giving this up,” she said. “I’m done with 4H, now I’m done with this… totally done.”

Lucas said he would still be involved to some extent.

“My sister (Jenna) is the new Junior Fair Queen; my brother was First Runner Up last year.”

Queen contestants responded to the question, “Would you rather be liked or respected?” All contestants said respected. Jenna had said that respect is looking up to and honoring you.

The King contestants responded to the question, “Will the world be a better place 100 years from now?” All contestants said yes. Logan noted there will be better technology, but added that “our generation will step up and be good role models to future generations.”

The 2012 and 2013 royal couples will be in the Annie Oakley Parade on July 27. After that the new king and queen will be on their own with parades and county fair visits throughout the summer and continued events the remainder of their term.

There were 26 candidates participating in the pageant. Additional King candidates were Addison Bashore, Anthony Ditmer and Thomas Shaw. Additional Queen candidates were Jessalyn Besecker, Michaela Colby, Macy Dirksen, Catey Fischer, Magdalena Jenkinson, Jenna Cline, Aubrey Kreusch, Jalena LeMaster, Makinzi Marker, Rachel Osterloh, Emily Vanhorn and Emily Walters.
