Bowers receive SSSF scholarships from Dave Knapp Ford

GREENVILLE – On July 2 Teha Richards, Tri-Village High School Class of
2013, and Sam Bowers, Greenville High School Class of 2013, received
Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund Business Scholarships from Dave Knapp
Ford Lincoln for their academic excellence and accomplishments in their
respective sports.
Richards was a 4-year starter in basketball for Tri-Village and a
member of its 1,000 points scored club. She was on the Cross County
Conference First Team for two years, Second Team for one year and its
Academic Team all four years. She was on the District 9 All Media Team,
Second Team AP All Southwest District and Honorable Mention AP All Ohio.
Bowers was Second Team All GWOC in soccer and received the
Coaches’ Award during his junior year, and First Team All GWOC, as well
as All District First Team, his senior year. He was a two year varsity
letterman and a one year varsity starter in basketball, winning the
“Most Improved Award” his junior season. In tennis he was Second Team
All GWOC and Second Team All District his junior year and First Team
All GWOC and Second Team All District his senior year. He won the
Coaches’ Award and holds the school record for most doubles wins.
Both students were honored as Athletes of the Week and County News
Online Players of the Month.
Richards will be attending Ball State University and is planning to
major in Physical Therapy. She is the daughter of Niles and Ranee
Richards.
Bowers will be attending Bowling Green University and will be majoring
in Sports Management. He is the son of Mike and Kim Bowers.
This is the second year Dave Knapp has participated in the Senior
Scribes Scholarship Fund Business Scholarship Program.
The Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund committee was formed in 2009 and
since then has awarded nearly $33,000 in scholarships to students from
all Darke County school districts, plus a student who was Home
Schooled. Funding comes from individual and business sponsors and
fundraisers by the Darke County Senior Scribes.
The Early Bird and County News Online have recently teamed with Paul
Ackley and The Bistro Off Broadway to create “Joining Together for
Darke County Youth” to provide additional fundraising opportunities
throughout the year.
