“Joining
Together for Darke County Youth” event raises over $800
GREENVILLE - Over two-thirds of the Paul Ackley cartoons available for
auction went out the door, most with a signature and note from the
artist, during the Silent Auction held at Bistro Off Broadway on May 31.
“We were pleased with the public response to Paul’s cartoons,” said
Fred Foutz, publisher of the Early Bird. Ted Abney of the Bistro Off
Broadway and Bob Robinson, County News Online and Associate Editor of
the Early Bird, agreed.
“Paul has a unique way of getting his point across with his caricatures
and artistic talents,” Robinson said. “He’s supportive of his community
and our traditions, but also is not shy about taking his political
digs.”
The silent auction was a joint fundraising event by Ackley, Bistro Off
Broadway, Early Bird and County News Online. Coined “Joining Together
for Darke County Youth,” the proceeds will go to the Senior Scribes
Scholarship Fund to be used for college scholarships. The Darke County
Commissioners supported the event with a proclamation on May 20.
Several of the cartoons had competitive bids with the highest bid
getting the Ackley original.
Winning bidders from May 31 were Kelly Oswalt with two cartoons, Von
Oswalt with two, Elaine Bailey, Ted Abney with three, Jeremie Stevens,
Mike Kiser, Fred Foutz, Dale and Sherrye Leensvaart, Paul Rethlake, Lyn
Bliss with three, Amber Garrett with two and Lois Wilson with two.
“Joining Together for Darke County Youth” continues the end of July
with Garst Museum’s “Gathering at Garst.” The Early Bird, County News
Online and Paul Ackley will once again be featuring his cartoons for
interested members of the public.
