Darke County Endowment for the
Arts announces
grant recipients
Darke
County Endowment for the Arts recently
awarded funds to St. Mary's School, Greenville Municipal Band, Bear's
Mill, and
the Darke County Park District to support their arts-related programs.
Endowment funds are disbursed annually to assist local organizations
and
individuals in meeting needs that will further the arts in Darke County
St.
Mary's School requested and received
funding for their art education program which is led by a volunteer
teacher,
Mrs. Sherry Myers. Arts supplies including paints, pencils, clay,
papers,
sketch pads, reference books, and display boards will be purchased so
that
students' lives can be enriched not only through hands-on activities,
but also
by gaining understanding of art history and how the arts apply to
everyday
life.
The
Greenville Municipal Concert Band has been
in existence for 125 years; the band's current schedule will see a
series of
eight free concerts this summer at the Marling Bandshell in Greenville
City
park. By helping to underwrite future concerts, the Endowment seeks to
insure
that this popular tradition continues to provide enjoyment to community
members
of all ages and economic demographics well into the future.
Bear's
Mill has offered “Art At the Mill” for
several years, providing gallery space for area artists to display
their work
for local citizens to view, appreciate, and consider for purchase.
Endowment
funds assist with meeting expenses connected to marketing and promoting
this
nine-month visual arts program which offers a fulfilling cultural
experience on
many levels.
Darke
County Parks District Summer Concert
program provides opportunity for enjoying music and nature in a unique
venue,
the Park District's outdoor amphitheater. In addition to outstanding
performances by professional artists, attendees often witness birds and
other
wildlife engaging in their daily activities, to the delight of
youngsters,
their parents, and grandparents.
Darke
County Endowment for the Arts was
established for the purpose of receiving charitable gifts which are
invested to
produce income benefitting the arts in Darke County. In addition to the
annual
disbursement to grant applicants, the Endowment provides support for
community
arts groups and the continuing preservation of Henry St. Clair Memorial
