Games,
chicken and ice cream highlight Rossburg festival
By Bob Robinson
ROSSBURG – “Nobody goes away empty-handed,” said Carla Cothran after
she awarded a prize to a youngster for tossing a bean bag into a large
basket a couple feet away.
Cothran ran the kiddie games portion of the 56th annual Rossburg Ice
Cream Social June 1. The prizes are donated by the community.
“We make a big deal out of it,” she said. “I think the parents get more
of a kick out of it than the children… they just want the toy.”
The festival is held each year at the Rossburg Fire Department on the
southeast corner of Hwy. 18 (the only stoplight in town). There is
something for every member of the family, including a petting zoo,
kiddie tractor pull, live entertainment, dessert wheel, bingo,
bar-b-cue chicken and of course, homemade ice cream.
In the tractor pull, 7-8 year old class, Breanna Germann took first
place honors, followed by Lance Bowers and Cheyanne Hartsock.
A display was set up along one wall that allowed children to pose as a
firefighter or Rage, Greenville Township Fire Department’s Dalmatian
mascot.
