Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund
SSSF Celebrates
its Fifth Anniversary
Directors of the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund recently celebrated
the organization’s fifth anniversary and the contributions of its
founding directors.
The Article of Association for the not-for-profit group was adopted and
approved on February 26, 2008. The mission of the Senior Scribes
Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to college students.
With the diligent efforts of its five directors who have held positions
since the organization’s inception, SSSF had awarded $14,000 to
students based on their demonstrated interest and accomplishment in the
elements of journalism and related fields of public communications.
In addition to funds raised through the direct efforts of the SSSF,
nearly $10,000 has been awarded through the contributions of Darrell
and Debbie Biddlestone in honor of Biddlestone’s mentor, the late Ralph
“Fred” Wright, who passed away in August 2006; Al and Barbara Greiner;
the Lloyd/Marie Blickenstaff and Melvin/Hannah Rust Memorial
Scholarship established by Delbert and Louis Blickenstaff in April
2012; The Bistro Off Broadway Scholarship, Dave Knapp Ford Lincoln
Scholarship, and the Greenville Eagles #2177 Scholarships, which were
all awarded in April 2012.
The five founding directors of the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund:
Delbert Blickenstaff, Al Bliss, Lynn Bliss, Al Greiner, and Bob
Robinson were recognized for their vision in furthering educational
opportunities and dedication in orchestrating a means of raising funds
for the yearly increase of qualified applicants.
The primary source of revenue for the 501 (c) (3) organization comes
from sponsors of County News Online, a free online news service that
provides news coverage, community news, sports, county commissioner
meeting minutes, and commentary. CNO was launched in January 15,
2011 and has grown to 30-35 thousand unique readers a month and
celebrated two million pages views before its second anniversary under
the devoted direction of Bob Robinson.
Other individuals who have served on the SSSF board of directors
include: the late Sally Amspaugh, Kathy Magoto, Phyllis Mong, and Edna
Rhodehamel,
The 2013-2014 directors include: Elaine Bailey, chair; Al Bliss,
vice-chair; Jan Boyer, recording secretary; Al Greiner, treasurer;
Delbert Blickenstaff, Lyn Bliss, Marianne Clark, and Bob Robinson.
