Students representing MVCTC HOSA attended the 2013-2014 HOSA Fall
Leadership Conference on October 15, 2013, in Columbus, Ohio.
While at
the Fall Leadership Conference the officers learned news ways to run
meetings and to grow in their leadership abilities. Also while at the
conference, a guest speaker with a child diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis
spoke about the challenges of keeping her child healthy while trying to
maintain a ‘normal’ lifestyle for the family.
Officers also learned from a Professional Registered Parliamentarian
how to properly run a meeting using Robert’s Rules of Order. The State
Officers demonstrated a poorly run meeting and then a properly run
meeting. Morgan Senters, senior chapter Parliamentarian, said, “It was
very helpful to actually see both a poorly and efficiently run meeting.
I now have the information I need to better perform my duties for my
chapter.”
During the conference, students broke up in to different groups,
depending on what HOSA chapter office they held. The voting delegates
then deliberated over numerous pin designs from across Ohio to
determine the best pin to represent Ohio at our National Convention in
June. The Motto for the Ohio HOSA State Leadership Conference was also
under deliberation.
HOSA is a national student organization designed to promote career
opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery
of quality health care to all people. HOSA provides a unique
program
of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for
secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students. For
