GHS College Club visits
University of Cincinnati
(GREENVILLE)
Greenville
High School seniors took their final College Club visit earlier this
month when they toured the University of Cincinnati.
“This was
our first class
to participate in the College Club, and it’s been a great success,”
said Becky Curtis, GHS counselor.
The
Greenville High School
College Club, a joint effort between the GHS Guidance Office and
Bridges to College, started in 2012 as a way to educate high school
students about college. The College Club includes educational lunch
seminars as well as visits to area college campuses.
The
senior members began
College Club during the spring of their sophomore year. They now have
had the opportunity to visit Wright State University, Sinclair
Community College, Ball State University, Miami University and
University of Cincinnati.
“College
Club began as a
way to educate students about the college search, admissions and
financial aid process,” said Beth Sears, executive director of
Bridges to College. “We also wanted students to visit area campuses
so they could learn about college tours, the differences between the
colleges, and the importance of finding the right fit.”
“The
seniors who have
participated in the College Club seem better prepared for the college
admissions process,” said Krista Subler, GHS counselor. She added
that many seniors in College Club have taken the ACT test and
narrowed their college choices.
By
beginning the college
process during their sophomore year, College Club is able to give the
students information over a longer period of time so that it is not
so overwhelming.
“We want to thank those
who have helped fund the GHS College Club,” Sears said.
The
University of
Cincinnati trip was partially funded through a grant from the
Greenville Schools Foundation and Bridges to College.
If a
community member or
business would like to sponsor a future trip, please contact the GHS
Guidance office or Bridges to College.
