GREENVILLE – Homecoming was a huge event at Greenville High School with
festivities beginning Sept. 24 (Class Color Day) and wrapping up with
the Homecoming Dance Sept. 28.
Heath Marker was crowned Chief Green Wave following the Homecoming
Parade Thursday while Paige Keller was crowned Homecoming Queen before
the game Friday night.
Hundreds of supporters followed the parade from Martin Street to
Greenville City Park, and were on hand for the Pep Rally at Marling
Band Shell. Marker was crowned Chief Green Wave, Asst. Coach Kyle Kagey
(who if “stuck would bleed green”) was Parade Marshall and Coach Aaron
Shaffer told supporters they needed to work as hard as the kids on the
field.
“They’re ready!” he said. “Your job is to make noise and support them.”
Prior to the game the Homecoming Court was introduced with Keller being
crowned 2013 Homecoming Queen by 2012 Homecoming Queen Tara Guillozet.
The Wave Cannon made a lot of noise at Good Samaritan Stadium at Harmon
Field, but the Wave fell short by the final gun. After almost going
into halftime with a 21 to 20 lead, the home team lost to Western
Brown, 42 to 28.
“It was a good game with a ranked team,” said a Wave supporter. “The
kids played hard.”
At halftime sponsors for the new Wave Scoreboard were recognized, along
with the family of Rhys Bowman who donated the play clocks at each end
of the field. Scoreboard sponsors included the employees and families
of Greenville Federal (lead sponsor at $30,000), Edison Community
College, Dave Knapp Ford, The Scott Family of McDonalds, Drew
Agricultural, Maid-Rite and Treaty City Industries.
The Spirit Award was earned by the GHS Senior Class.
GHS Royal court members are Zach Hounshell, Zach Comer, Kyle Bruner,
Cole Ward, Dylan Blinn, Ryan Eldridge, Jenelle Agne, Taylor Amburgey,
Emily Beanblossom, Kristen Grim, Olivia Quellhorst and Paige Tester.
