Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program (RSVP)
Volunteer
and Lead with
Experience
Have you heard of RSVP and
all the great work the volunteers do in the communities?
The Retired and Senior
Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a national referral service program
designed to place volunteers aged 55+ in non-profit organizations
where their knowledge, experience and skills positively impact the
community and the individuals they serve. Our RSVP program here in
Darke County at the Council on Rural Services has been working with
mature citizens now since 1974 and we have lots of partners that need
volunteers.
We know times have changed
and our volunteers that are 55+ have very busy lifestyles, but we
know many still want to include helping their community through
volunteering. AARP says that more than 80% of Americans older than
45 help others through formal and informal volunteer opportunities.
We have opportunities that give you the flexibility you want to
volunteer and still do the all the other things in your busy life.
Volunteering allows you to
feel good and give back to the community. YOU have priceless
experience and talent. Just imagine how many children could be
tutored and helped to move forward with their education, or how many
people could get jobs if we have more experienced volunteer mentors
sharing what they have learned. Volunteering can also help you stay
young, be involved, maintain physical and mental health, and even add
years to your life.
Right now we have new
volunteer opportunities in our Reading Buddies program that works
with preschoolers in the local Head Start program. Is there anything
more fun than being involved in the excitement and discovery that
preschoolers have each day? You can be involved by helping with
their literacy program.
RSVP is asking for your
help on behalf of the community. Call and let us help you find that
“just right” volunteer positions to share your time and talent. Even if
you only have a few extra hours a week, we can find that
volunteer position that is a fit for you. You can tutor children,
be a receptionist, stock in a food pantry, volunteer on a non-profit
board, advocate for a child, help recycle, work at a park or museum,
write grants, or even lead other volunteers, We have volunteer sites
that NEED your talents.
If you live in Darke,
Miami, Shelby or Logan County and are 55+ years of age, this program
could be just right for you. We can also make referrals for younger
adults. Call the local Darke County office today at 937-548-8002 or
email dkrsvp@councilonruralservices.org, we will find a new and
exciting opportunity for you.
