Edison’s STEM
Camp a success with local students
Educational, fun, interesting, empowering, encouraging and exciting
were just a few words used by students to describe Edison Community
College’s STEM Camp. The College recently hosted nearly 80 area
students entering grades 8-10 at its annual science, technology,
engineering, and mathematics program.
Taught by Edison staff and faculty, students had the opportunity to
choose from a variety of high-tech sessions ranging from robotics and
graphic design to the ecosystem and crime scene investigation.
While sharing their thoughts about Edison’s STEM Camp, one participant
remarked, “I would recommend it to my friends because all of the events
were fun and could help guide me and my friends to our future jobs.”
Another camper pointed out, “You can spend a little money to learn and
experience a lot things that you’ve never seen before.”
In the popular crime scene investigation session, participants
completed an entire mock investigation where they collected evidence,
used deductive reasoning and arraigned the offender. “It was fun
because we got to put ourselves in the shoes of police officers,” added
a student whose dream is to become a cop.
Robotics camp was another well-liked session giving students the chance
to build and program all kinds of robots. “Robotics camp was my
favorite session because it’s creative and I could learn more about
high-level techniques,” stated a camper.
Held at Edison’s Piqua campus, students were given the opportunity to
participate in their choice of eight different sessions and were
presented with certificates of completion at the conclusion of the
four-day camp.
