Sandy Bowman:
“We were – and are – the original”
GREENVILLE – “We’re in 12 fairs,” said Sandy Bowman, who with her
husband Gary founded Bowman’s Concessions 35 years earlier. “When we go
back to them each year, it’s like going home.”
Gary Bowman worked for WDRK radio. “He was out here every year for the
station,” she said. “I took my vacation at fair time.” She added
however she had nothing to do since he was working. “We decided to
start a concession stand but hadn’t figured out what we wanted to sell…”
She said there was a place in Arcanum that made their own “handmade”
tenderloins. “They gave us the recipe. We decided to make our own…
pounded them out ourselves.”
Bowman’s has been in front of the coliseum of the Darke County Fair for
its 35 years in business. They set up a second stand in another part of
the fairgrounds...
