Staff Receives Specialized Congestive Heart Failure Certification
Training
The nursing staff at Versailles Health Care Center, a skilled nursing
and rehabilitation center, recently received specialized training and
is now certified in a Nationally Nurse Certification Congestive Heart
Failure (CHF) Program through the Department of Human and Health
Services. In July, Kim Scharf, RN, MNSc, APRN, taught the two-day
program to staff. Scharff said, “It was very evident the
Versailles team took to heart what was taught and implemented.
Their desire to learn, apply and act post bedside assessment was
incredible to witness. They were like sponges taking in
everything they could to enhance their knowledge…Incredible!!”
Scharff further went on to say, “It meant so much to experience the
Versailles staff being so open and willing to strengthen their skills
at the bedside. Additionally, the time spend with the staff the
last few days gave me a new zest for teaching as the rewards were
mutual.”
The CHF Program consisted of the following components:
Interdisciplinary Training/Education, Admission Process, Assessment and
Monitoring, Patient/Caregiver Teaching, Discharge Process, and
Post-Discharge. The Interdisciplinary Training and
Education more specifically included: 8-hour CHF certification LN
Course-Verification of Education, 8-hour of bedside training with
competency evaluation, and ten elements of competence for using teach
back effectively after barriers to learning identified.
“I’m excited that our nursing staff has received this high level of
training. The skills assessment training will compliment our
exceptional therapy program,” said Kristy Earick, Administrator at
Versailles Health Care Center.
