The library a safe
place with lots of action
GREENVILLE – “The library is no longer just a quiet place to read,”
said Greenville Friends of the Library President Jan Boyer. “It’s a
safe place to be in the community. We serve people from all walks of
life here… it’s just a good place to be.”
It’s also an active place to be with events taking place within its
walls on a regular basis, the most recent being the library’s annual
Christmas Open House, the last event of the calendar year. Visitors of
all ages were enjoying homemade treats and punch, checking out books,
tapes and videos offered for loan and, of course, waiting to see Santa
Claus and his wife, Mrs. Claus.
The Friends offered a limited selection of free books (donations
requested) next to the treats table downstairs, and conducted its used
book sale on the second floor. Christmas music was offered in the
background with Alex Vehre on the violin alternating with Nancy Jackson
on the flute.
“We’ve had a lot of traffic,” said Library Director John Vehre. “We
have Santa and Mrs. Claus coming in every year… so far (it was noon)
over 40 kids have visited them.” He noted when the open house started
15 years earlier it used to be a membership drive. “Not so much
anymore,” he added. “However, it’s been a good year...
