Teen helps children
have presents Christmas morning
ANSONIA – She’s 15 years old and she hasn’t had the time to do her own
Christmas shopping… she’s been too busy helping about 5,000 kids she
doesn’t know have a present under their tree on Christmas morning.
“I don’t want to be the one at fault,” Clarissa Scofield said soberly,
“if a child wakes up Christmas morning and has no toys because mom
can’t afford it… it’s not the child’s fault.”
The home-schooled 14-year-old (mom says she won’t be 15 until next
year) lives in Eaton and has been volunteering in two programs for
“seven or eight years.” She was on hand for the Ansonia Lumber Toy
Contest as part of her volunteer work for Toys for Tots, a U.S. Marine
Corp Reserve function. She helps in both the Preble and Darke County
campaigns, each of which serves approximately 2,000 children a year…
