Woodland
students, Village Green donate to FISH
By Bob Robinson
GREENVILLE – “Thank you guys for bringing in all those canned goods to
help people out. That was awesome!”
Tina McClanahan, Village Green Healthcare Center, told Woodland Heights
kindergartners, first graders and second graders she appreciated their
efforts, resulting in over 1,200 pounds of food and $100 in cash.
Village Green matched them, bringing the total cash to $1,000.
Donations this year went to FISH. The pizza party was given to the top
classroom in each grade: Mrs. Ernst – kindergarten; Mrs. Koenig – first
grade; Mrs. Ford – second grade.
McClanahan and Village Green employee Jody Smith handed out the pizza.
Craig Marshall, a Village Green resident, handed out chocolate milk.
“Craig just wants to be here,” McClanahan said. “He’s our most active
resident, and came out to help us box everything up.” The Greenville
High School wrestling team loaded the food and took it to FISH.
This is the second year Village Green has joined with Woodland to get
food for those who need it. Last year the donation went to Grace
Resurrection Community Center.
“The kids do Pen Pals with us,” Smith said. “They donate artwork. We
pick it up and display it in our hallways. Parents come out to see
their children’s drawings and to visit.”
McClanahan said the first year was such a “great success we had to do
it again this year.”
