Community
supports CASA children
Abused
and neglected children under CASA care will have brighter birthdays
in the future. A big thank you to the community for your support of
our recent fundraising effort . Every other year, funds are raised
to provide birthday presents for the over 45 children who have been
assigned a CASA volunteer by the courts and to pay for the volunteers
training.
Court
Appointed Special Advocates – CASAs – are trained citizen
volunteers who speak for the best interests of children thrust into
the Juvenile Court System. Overburdened social workers, lawyers and
judges look to the CASA volunteer for insights about the child and
the family. These insights guide the search for the secure and loving
home that every child deserves.
While
funding for the CASA director, Kay Robbins, and the office are
provided by the Darke County Commissioners, the costs for training
the volunteers are not. Other costs that are not covered are a gift
for each child’s birthday. This year we raised $3255.
Thanks
also to Greenville National Bank for their assistance with the
fundraising mailing.
Prospective
volunteers eager for training and working with children are
encouraged to contact the director, Kay Robbins at 548-9091.
