Harry
D. and Esther Stephens
Memorial supports arts in Darke County
Recently
the Darke County Center
for the Arts and the Anna Bier Gallery were named as recipients of
funds from the Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial Fund. According
to Dianna Wagner, President of the Harry D. and Esther Stephens
Memorial, “We are privileged to have both organizations as they
benefit many people in Darke County. “
“The
generous support from the
Stephens Memorial Fund has contributed greatly to the arts
organizations’ ability to continue bringing high quality artists to
the community,” stated DCCA Executive Director Andrea Jordan. The
Stephens Memorial helps underwrite all DCCA programs – Artists
Series and Special Events which brings world class artists to St.
Clair Memorial Hall; Family Theatre Series which presents at a very
reasonable ticket price theatrical productions based on classic
children’s literature; Coffee House Series which takes patrons to
smaller venues throughout the county for a more intimate arts
experience; and Arts In Education which takes artists to the
audience, presenting performances to all grade levels in each local
school district.
According
to Jordan, “We are very
fortunate to be in a community that values the arts, and are
sincerely thankful for the generosity of the Harry D. Stephens
Memorial Fund and its commitment to enhancing the quality of life in
our community through the arts.”
DCCA
presents and promotes
performing and fine arts, encouraging cultural enrichment in the
community; and is committed to the preservation of Henry St. Clair
Memorial Hall as an important cultural center.
Roots
are synonymous with origins,
foundation, sources, and heritage. Wings take flight, ascend, and
soar. Both words, though simple, have profound implications and they
provide the theme for Darke County Center for the Arts 2014-2015
Artists Series season - “Music gives us roots and wings.” The
idea for roots and wings came from the discovery that next season's
performances feature artists whose talents spring from deep cultural
roots in traditional music forms and take flight from that heritage.
