Students participating in Missoula Children's Theatre's summer residency presented by Darke County Center for the Arts.  Performances of RAPUNZEL are Saturday, August 2 at 3 & 7 PM at St. Clair Memorial Hall.

DCCA announces cast for MCT's Rapunzel

An outstanding cast has been chosen from the one hundred talented local youngsters who auditioned for Darke County Center for the Arts' presentation of Missoula Children's Theatre's Rapunzel. Following just five lively days of intense rehearsals, two performances of the musical play that takes audiences on a frivolous frolic through the French countryside will be presented on Saturday, August 2. Curtain time for the matinee is 3 p.m.; the evening performance is at 7 p.m.

The title character is played by two actresses, one in the tower, the other on the ground; Madison Baker has the role of Tower Rapunzel while Room Rapunzel will be played by Abigail Kramer. Two Rapunzels require two princes; Prince #1 will be acted by Isaac White and Cameron Clark plays Prince #2. Megan Meeks won the role of villainous Madame Gothel; Rapunzel's bickering parents Maurice and Monique will be played by Justin Arling and Lyssa Middlestetter.

Acting as the spies who report to Madame Gothel are Aaron Buchy as the Potato and Seth Conway and Joe Spitzer as the Ears of Corn. Sarah Crumrine, Hannah Gulley, Reagan Herndon, Natalie House, Trinity Layman, Cierra Miller, Lillian Pietrzak, Jessica Tanner, and Tessa Tyo will appear as the singing Wood Elves. The Ogres who garden in the Mushroom patch will be played by Roman Dircksen, Cole Kramer, Lucille Prakel, and Harley West; playing the Mushrooms are Lydia Ayette, Sarah Buchy, Natalie Brewer, Isaiah Early, Libby Fox, Will Gettinger, Rachel Hardings, Eliya Harshbarger, Payton Herman, Caroline Kerg, Hosanna Layman, Megan Lind, Andy Miller, Molly Phelan, Callie Pope, and Avery Yount.

Mackenzie Baker and Isabel Rawlins will appear as Rapunzel's friends the Unicorns. Playing the Pixies who protect the forest are Brynn Brisco, Mya Conway, Lauren Detling, Natalie Milligan, Elizabeth Moss, Kaylee Phelan, and Kara Strait. Micah Ayette, Grace Collins, Katie Conway, Jacob Dircksen, Grahm Milligan, Scotty Richie, and Brenna Smart play tricky Gremlins.

Other fairy tales get tangled up in this story, so some familiar characters enter into the narrative. Three Billy Goats are acted by Jacob Early, Isaac Gulley, and Carter Puckett, while Sara Rice plays the Troll. The Three Bears who confuse Rapunzel with Goldilocks are acted by Ryan Ballou, Katherine Kauffman, and Kirsten Strait; Israel Layman appears as Bucky Beaver, who believes that he is a bear.

Taylor Bowers, Briannah Harshbarger, and Gabrielle Sprinkle will serve as Assistant Directors throughout the week, assisting MCT Tour/Actor Directors Brandon Alpert and Lauren Butler. Brandon will also play the character Frenchy in the show. Judy Kugel is pianist for Rapunzel.

The Missoula Children's Theatre residency is made possible by a grant from Darke County Endowment for the Arts and donors to DCCA's Power2Give.org “Everybody Wins!” project. Darke County Center for the Arts also receives funding from local businesses, foundations, and the Ohio Arts Council. Tickets to the performance cost $5; to reserve tickets for either Saturday performance of MCT's Rapunzel, contact DCCA at 937-547-0908 or visits DCCA's website www.centerforarts.net. Tickets will also be available at the box office prior to performances.
