Beagle
Announces Statehouse Fellowship Program
COLUMBUS–
State Senator Bill Beagle (R–Tipp City) announced today that the
Ohio Legislative Service Commission is accepting applications for its
13-month Legislative and Telecommunications Fellowship Program. The
commission will hire at least 20 fellows to work with members of the
Ohio General Assembly during 2015.
This
year’s fellow in Beagle’s office is Sarah Huffman of Lima, Ohio.
Huffman is a 2013 graduate of Miami University, where she majored in
Adolescent Young Adult Language Arts Education. In her time during
the fellowship, Huffman has assisted Beagle’s office with
constituent work, legislative research, and duties related to the
Workforce and Economic Development Committee, of which Beagle is the
chairman.
“I
would encourage anyone with an interest in the legislative process to
consider applying for Fellowship Program. The program is a great way
to learn first-hand how state government operates,” said Beagle.
Legislative
fellow duties include assisting members of the Ohio General Assembly
with constituent work, writing press releases and speeches, assisting
in legislative research, attending meetings, and performing
administrative duties. Telecommunication fellows assist in televising
House and Senate proceedings and in preparing educational video
productions about the General Assembly and the legislative process.
The
fellowships are full-time, paid positions. Fellows are paid
$28,000-$30,000 annually and are eligible for benefits applicable to
other state employees.
Legislative
fellowship application materials must be postmarked by April 1, 2014
to be considered for the program. The application deadline for the
two telecommunications positions is May 31, 2014. All applicants must
have graduated from a four-year college degree program by the
December start date. Persons holding graduate or professional degrees
may apply. The legislative fellowship program is open to graduates of
all majors and fields of study who have a genuine interest in
learning about state government, and no political experience is
required. The two telecommunications fellows must have majored or
minored in a telecommunications-related field of study or have
comparable experience. To learn more information about this program
