March of Dimes at
Kiwanis
Shawn Daughtery
introduced Angelé Price of the Dayton March of Dimes at the Kiwanis
Club meeting on March 5. Angelé explained their mission of the last
75 years has been to help Moms and babies. They fund education,
research, and direct care. In 1938 FDR asked people to “march your
dimes to the White House” to fund polio research which led to the
Salk vaccine. Shawn is the chair of the “March for Babies” Walk
on April 26 starting at the Fairgrounds. The goal this year is to
raise over $110,000. Last year there were 700 participants. There
are two courses – 5.5 miles or 1 mile. The walk begins at 9:00
a.m. Local restaurants donate food, a DJ plays music, and there are
activities for kids. Company teams are popular. It's easy to
register and/or make donations online. 76 cents of every dollar goes
to the mission. Everyone should consider supporting the March of
Dimes!
