Faber, Beagle Seek to Raise Awareness for Mitochondrial Disease, Honor Life of Corynna Strawser
COLUMBUS– The Ohio Senate today approved Senate Bill 300, sponsored by
Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) and Senate President Keith Faber
(R-Celina), which seeks to designate the month of September as
“Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Month” in Ohio. This legislation will
commemorate the life and work of 16-year-old Corynna Strawser, as well
as carry on her goal to raise public awareness for mitochondrial
disease.
“During her brave struggle with this horrible disease, Corynna was
determined to raise awareness in an effort to help others,” said
Beagle. “I’m proud we are able to help carry the torch for Corynna and
bring this cause into the light.”
Strawser, of Greenville, Ohio, was a devoted advocate for mitochondrial
disease awareness. After losing her battle with the disease in December
2013, her family and friends have carried on her mission by continuing
to raise awareness.
“Heroes are people who do remarkable things in the face of difficult
circumstances in order to support a cause greater than themselves,”
added Senate President Keith Faber. “Corynna is a hero for her cause
and know she would be proud to see the state carrying on her legacy.”
Senate Bill 300 will now move to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
