Dedicates Robert J. Shook Bikeway Bridge
COLUMBUS—State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) took part today in the
dedication of the Robert J. Shook Bikeway Bridge, in honor of Bob
Shook, a Troy area resident and former Concord Township trustee.
“Bob Shook shaped the future of the Miami County Trails Task Force with
his commitment and dedication to public service,” said Beagle. “It is
an honor to dedicate this bridge to such a hardworking advocate for
Miami County, our beautiful bikeways and a healthier community.”
The Robert J. Shook Bikeway Bridge completes the Great Miami River
Recreational Trail in Miami County, making it part of the largest
network of trails in America. The bridge is the final connection
to complete one continuous trail from Piqua to the Montgomery County
line where the Great Miami River trail continues 330 miles through
southwestern Ohio.
The Miami County Parks Department received $500,000 in state funding
from the Clean Ohio Trails Fund, along with federal and local dollars,
in order to complete the project.
“The Park District Board of Commissioners thought it would be fitting
to honor Bob and his efforts by naming the bridge after him,” says J.
Scott Myers, the executive director for the Miami County Park
District. “Bob’s commitment to completing the bikeway has been
unwavering, even in the face of tough obstacles.”
The bridge, located in Farrington Reserve in Piqua, is now open to the
public
