MVCTC Adult Education
Receives Accreditation
Englewood, Ohio -- On July 25, 2014, the Adult Education Division of
the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) received notice of
accreditation from Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and
Colleges (ACCSC) for three years. The ACCSC accreditation applies
to MVCTC as an institution and all programs offered by the school must
also meet approval by ACCSC.
MVCTC was required to meet ACCSC’s Standards of Accreditation.
According to the ACCSC website, www.accsc.org, the standards provide an
accountability framework for institutions that first and foremost
ensures that institutions offer well developed programs that prepare
students for their chosen fields of work, and second, requires
institutions to assess continually and show success in meeting
established program objectives.
This accountability framework also helps to ensure that institutions
grow in an appropriate and responsible fashion and in a manner that
best meets the needs of students and of the employment community.
ACCSC’s Standards of Accreditation outline the expectations for
accredited member institutions in such areas as:
Management and Administrative Operations,
Requirements for Residential and Distance Education Programs,
Educational Administration and Faculty Qualifications,
Student Recruiting and Advertising,
Admissions Policies and Practices,
Student Services, and
Student Achievement.
In order to meet US Department of Education (USDOE) guidelines for
financial aid, schools and colleges must be accredited by an
organization recognized by USDOE.
At its June 2011 meeting, the National Advisory Committee for
Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI), which is charged with
advising the U.S. Secretary of Education on accreditation matters,
voted to recommend that ACCSC’s recognition as a reliable authority on
quality education be continued for five years, the maximum timeframe
allowed under the federal guidelines. ACCSC was one of only two
accrediting agencies on NACIQI’s June 2011 agenda to earn the
committee’s recommendation for a full five-year term with no additional
reporting required.
ACCSC’s scope of recognition with the U.S. Department of Education
includes the accreditation of postsecondary, non-degree-granting
institutions and degree-granting institutions, including those granting
associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees, that are predominantly
organized to educate students for occupational, trade and technical
careers, and including institutions that offer programs via distance
education.
MVCTC Adult Education chose to participate in the rigorous process
through ACCSC.
ACCSC’s mission is to serve as a reliable authority on educational
quality and to promote enhanced opportunities for students by
establishing, sustaining, and enforcing valid standards and practices
which contribute to the development of a highly trained and competitive
workforce through quality career oriented education.
ACCSC stimulates, nurtures, verifies, and recognizes ongoing
educational quality and integrity in institutions offering programs of
a vocational and career-oriented nature.
MVCTC’s mission statement, “We are dedicated to providing premier
educational choices and advanced employment preparation for youth,
adults and organizations of the Miami Valley.” aligns well with the two
primary objectives of the ACCSC mission:
“To assure students and the general public of the quality of
educational training provided by ACCSC-accredited institutions and
their programs and
To assist institutions in continuously improving themselves and the
training they provide students.”
Over the next three years, MVCTC will continue to serve employers by
improving programming and services for adult students in the Miami
Valley.
For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education
for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest
Ohio. MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce
training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami
Valley.
