MVCTC Offers New
Business Software Elective Class
Englewood, Ohio – “Business Software" is a new elective course being
offered this school year at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center
(MVCTC). The students are using Lynda.com, which is a leading
online learning company that helps anyone learn business, software,
technology and creative skills. The students learn software which
will help them in their career technical labs and in their
careers. Lynda.com has over 21,000 online courses available to
choose from Basic Keyboarding to C\C++ Programming and Adobe Flash
Professional CS6. Students choose what they would like to learn,
sign an individual learning plan, maintain a daily learning log, and
make a presentation to the class at the end of the online course.
Sean Wilt (Vandalia), a senior in the Game Programming and Web
Applications Program, says "Lynda.com is like a teacher who is there
all the time and teaches the subject you want to learn." Sean is
currently learning Adobe Flash and preparing a presentation for the
Shawnee Student Showcase which is an art and gaming competition at
Shawnee State University in November.
Karl Olmo (Northmont), a senior in the Computer Network Engineering
Program, is studying "Foundations of Programming”. He shared, "I
like the pace. You can re-watch videos and learn it all at your
own pace."
Students often go beyond what they would normally learn in lab and
share their knowledge with other students. All students at MVCTC
have access to Lynda.com and can use it at any time, in or out of the
classroom. Students are excited to come to class each day and
continue with what they had been working on the previous day.
Lynda.com has been an excellent addition to the MVCTC curriculum.
For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education
for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest
Ohio. MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce
training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami
Valley.
