Edison Welcomes Olivieri as Early Child Development Center Director

Holly Olivieri will take the helm of Edison Community College’s highly acclaimed Early Child Development Center (ECDC) as Director beginning August 10.

Olivieri, of Troy, is a 2004 Wright State University graduate who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education. With over eleven years of direct experience under her belt, Olivieri is enthusiastic about her future at Edison.

“I’m really excited to have the chance to spread my wings and take my career to the next level,” said Olivieri. “Ultimately, I hope to bring innovative thinking and creative activities to the program to help children learn and grow.”

Olivieri joins Edison from Wright Field South Child Development Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where she served as Program Assistant Director for the last five years. Prior to that, she held the position of Training and Curriculum Specialist at the same center. Her previous responsibilities have included teaching, mentoring, curriculum development, budget preparation, coaching, staff training, and administrative duties.

“My own children have gone through this same program, so I understand what is expected of me as Director,” added Olivieri.

Olivieri’s experience with creative curriculum and the accrediting body, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) will also prove to be valuable as Edison’s ECDC consistently holds approval. In addition to its accreditation, the ECDC recently received a Five-Star Step Up To Quality Award from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the highest rating in Miami County.

“Holly exhibits a passion for teaching, a positive attitude, an energetic personality, and a commitment to children and early childhood education,” said Gwen Stevenson, Search Committee Chairperson and Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences. “The selection committee is confident she will be an excellent Head Teacher and will provide the required leadership for this position.”

Edison’s Early Child Development Center is a developmental program of care and education for children 3 years of age through kindergarten. The mission of the Child Development Center is to provide high–quality education and care experiences utilizing engaging and developmentally appropriate activities that promote the social, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative growth of children while serving as a model for college students who are studying early childhood education.

Observing a staff-to-child ratio of one teacher for every eight children, the program provides care for children 3 years of age through kindergarten. Applications for entry into the afternoon preschool session are currently being accepted. The program begins September 7, 2015, and will run from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the College’s Piqua campus.
