First responders
serve the fair and their communities
GREENVILLE – An integral part of the Great Darke County Fair each year
are the first responders on call at various locations around the
fairgrounds. EMS responders are stationed at the south end of the track
as well as near the Red Cross and Sheriff’s offices north of the track;
while fire departments are on duty at the main gate No. 2. First
responders can also be found at other locations as needed. Local
departments alternate, sharing the duty throughout fair week.
First responders are a fixture hardly noticed until help is needed. On
Aug. 23 the Union City (Ohio) Fire Department was taking its turn, 4
p.m. to midnight, at the main gate. A second shift is scheduled for the
last Saturday of the fair. Armed with two “Gators” and a full-sized
truck, Asst. Chief Brian Stump and firefighters Mark Hummel, Chad
Enicks and Shelby Stump were taking their shift.
One of the “Gators” carries water, the other doesn’t, but both hook up
