Edison and Healthcare
Providers Discuss Needs
Leaders of Edison Community College’s Darke County campus recently held
a roundtable discussion with area healthcare providers to determine how
to better serve the industry.
Chad Beanblossom, Executive Director of Edison’s Darke County campus
initiated the meeting by providing healthcare leaders with information
about Edison’s current programs and, in return, asked them to provide
insight into their workforce needs, in-demand healthcare careers, and
continuing education requests.
“As Executive Director of the Darke County Campus, it is important for
me to bring a variety of groups together to ensure we are meeting the
educational needs of Darke County business and industry,” said
Beanblossom. “The healthcare roundtable was extremely productive and
information compiled will be used to better serve area healthcare
providers.”
During the meeting, professionalism, staffing longevity, and necessary
experience were discussed as well as new program ideas and continuing
education opportunities. Representatives of Edison also highlighted the
numerous articulation agreements held with four-year colleges
throughout Ohio and beyond.
“I learned about a new and rising career in healthcare as a medical
scribe. It is insight like this from those in the field that allow
Edison to be proactive in workforce development rather than just
reactive,” said Dr. Doreen Larson, President of Edison.
Those in attendance included representatives of the following
healthcare providers: Brethren Retirement Community, Comprehensive
Health Network, Greenville C-Tec, Greenville Township Rescue, Heartland
of Greenville, Versailles Health Care Center, Village Green Health
Campus, and Wayne HealthCare.
The meeting also included input from Edison’s Dr. Doreen Larson,
President; Gwen Stevenson, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences; Jill
Bobb, Associate Program Administrator of Nursing; and Vickie Kirk,
Allied Health Faculty and Director of the Phlebotomy program.
