Last day of school a
day for celebration
GREENVILLE – “Yeah… got a job this summer,” said a Greenville Junior
High student. Doing what? “Bailing hay!” The student demonstrated the
movements of taking a pitchfork into a stack of harvested hay and
tossing it into the bailer. Pay good? He nodded his head, grinning.
Some of his classmates weren’t quite as set in their summer plans.
Several said they were going to look for a job; others planned to just
“hang out.” There was little work being done on June 1 on the junior
high or any other campus… it was the last day of school. It was party
time… a celebration of a successfully completed semester.
The exception was Greenville High School. The students remaining on
campus were taking their final exams. The rest had begun their summer
vacations… working, looking for work or preparing for college. Some had
enrolled in summer sessions at Edison Community College.
East School had third and fourth graders laughing and giggling over the
annual slide presentation prepared by Sherry Flora. Prior to that
they’d had to complete some important work...
