Learning in order to teach part of Linebaugh’s training

GREENVILLE – “Every year we plant 2.3 billion trees… that’s nine trees for every man, woman and child (in this country),” said Hannah Linebaugh, Darke County Parks Naturalist. She noted this is an indication of the value placed on trees in the environment. “In 1990s, for instance,” she added, “our reforesting program had increased to 30 percent from only 12 percent in the 1940s.”

This is just one of the “facts” Linebaugh presented to Junior Naturalists (grades 3-6) in October. Others included talking about many of the 120 native species of trees in Ohio and the more than a dozen that can be found at Shawnee Prairie. She had a trimmed down version scheduled for Kindergarten through second grade over the weekend, however there wasn’t enough participation from the age group to present the program...
