Rolling 50s
entertains hundreds, benefits local charities
GREENVILLE – Throughout the day and evening Downtown Greenville’s
Rolling 50s Car Show hosted a thousand people or more. Dave Niley, one
of the event coordinators, wouldn’t begin to guess. Crowds walked up
and down South Broadway, around the Circle and into side streets from 2
to 9 p.m. Sept. 12 to check out more than 400 entries, ranging from
vintage Fords, Chevys and Cadillacs to a not-so-common Porsche and
Crosley display.
In addition to an entertaining visit for the crowds, two local
charities benefitted from the show. A 50/50 drawing yielded $663 each
to The Shriners and The Cancer Association of Darke County. As it has
done in the past, the Rolling 50s club added an additional donation to
each.
Fifties music included “Tell Laura I Love Her,” “Stand by Me,” “Let It
Be,” “Under the Boardwalk” and more. “Pretty Woman” was a little later
in the 70s, but the crowd was treated to it anyway. About a half dozen
children were hula hooping… and hula hooping… and more, in a seemingly
endless burst of energy...
