Versailles Health Care Center
VHCC recognizes March
as Brain Injury Awareness Month
March was Brain Injury Awareness Month, a time to recognize and support
the millions of Americans who live with brain injuries. More than
2.5 million people in the United States sustain traumatic brain
injuries (TBI) in the U.S. each year, and 1 million more experience
strokes and other acquired brain injuries. At least 5.3 million
Americans live with TBI-related disabilities at a cost of more than 476
billion each year.
People living with brain injuries want the same things we all
want: a good job, someone to love, a nice home, and fun in their
lives. They want to be defined by who they are as people, not by
their injuries. They are not alone.
Each year, the Brain Injury Association assists individuals and
families who experience the life changing and sometimes devastating
effects of brain injury. Callers to the National Brain Injury
Information Center (1-800-444-6443) talk with compassionate,
knowledgeable specialists who assist in locating rehabilitative, legal,
finance, and other support services critical to maximizing
recovery.
Versailles Health Care Center holds a quarterly event for survivors of
stroke and brain injury and their families. NeuroConnect meets to
connect survivors and their families with positive support and
beneficial resources. Sessions are led by Dr. Stephen Winner,
Facility Rehab Director and Physical Therapist, and Tammy Moyar,
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. The next NeuroConnect
will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 4 p.m. It will be held
at Versailles Health Care Center. The guest speaker will be
Shelly Poling, a spokesperson for the American Heart Association.
She is also a Stroke Nurse at Upper Valley Medical Center. This
is a FREE meeting for survivors of stroke and brain injury and their
families. Poling will be presenting “Living Better with Life’s
Simple 7” to help guests build a healthier future one heart at a
time. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. To RSVP
or for more information, please call Stephen at 937.526.0130.
