ASP students celebrate with Christmas party
By Bob Robinson

After School Program students wrap up their efforts on a high note… celebrating with their own Christmas Party. All students enrolled in the program, regardless of the specific days they attended, were invited to one more Christmas Party on the last day of school before the holiday break…

They were surprised and delighted when Santa Claus showed up. As he has in the past, Santa couldn’t remember my name, but he was on top of his game with the children.

Nearly half of the children in the program showed up to unlimited snacks, Christmas music and pictures with Santa, posing as one of his reindeer. A few students insisted they had homework; volunteers were there to help them.

Nobody went home hungry!

The After School Program is conducted by Empowering Darke County Youth and is open to all students in Darke County. The group meets five days a week (during the school year) on the Edison State Community College Darke County Campus. The focus is on K-4, however there are also a number of fifth and sixth grade students participating. Greenville City Schools provides a bus for its K-4 students; other students are brought to the program by their care providers.

ASP is always looking for volunteers and others who wish to help. Please drop us a line at empoweringdarkecountyyouth@gmail.com.
