Gordon Orthodontics
sponsors DCCA Voices Season
Darke County Center for the Arts recognizes Gordon Orthodontics for
their support of the 2015-2016 Voices Season and thanks Dr. Doug Gordon
for being an outstanding voice for the arts in our community. “We
are touched by Dr. Doug Gordon’s commitment to enhancing the quality of
life for children in our community both in his orthodontics practice
and by helping provide opportunities for youngsters to learn and grow
through the arts,” stated DCCA Executive Director Andrea Jordan.
Dr. Gordon and Gordon Orthodontics have been long time supporters of
DCCA’s Family theatre Series and this season will also be helping DCCA
to present the a cappella group VoicePlay as part of the Artists Series
and Arts in Education Outreach for local public High School
Students.
Family Theater Series programs are presented at St. Clair Memorial
Hall. Programs are generally based on children’s literature;
ticket prices are just $5. Through Arts In Education, and in
conjunction with local schools, performing artists are annually taken
to each grade of every public school in Darke County, ensuring that
children in the community have the opportunity to learn and grow
through the arts. “Gordon Orthodontic’s support of children’s
programming makes it possible for us to present professional Family
Theatre Series programs at an affordable ticket price, and enables all
Darke County public school students to experience a culturally
enriching artistic program each year,” stated Andrea Jordan, DCCA
Executive Director.
DCCA’s 2015/2016 Family Theatre Series includes three performances -
Theatreworks USA presented The Lightning Thief on October 4th;
ArtsPower will present a colorful musical production of the storybook
favorite Madeline & the Bad Hat on November 15th; Lightwire Theater
returns to Darke County with a cosmic adventure of their latest
electroluminescent puppetry production Moon Mouse A Space Odyssey on
April 3, 2016. Family Theatre Series shows take place at
St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville, tickets are $5 and are
available, at Readmore’s Hallmark in Greenville, the Greenville Public
Library, Worch Memorial Public Library in Versailles, and by contacting
DCCA at (937) 547-0908 or online at CenterforArts.net. Remaining
tickets will be available, at the door, the day of the performance.
Arts In Education programs for 2015/2016 include Kim & Reggie
Harris presenting Music of the Underground Railroad and songs of
freedom for students in grades K-3; the Mad River Theater Works
production of John Henry brings history to life for grades 4-6; Living
Voices returns to St. Clair Memorial Hall to present the story of Anne
Frank Through the Eyes of a Friend to grades 7 & 8; and as seen on
NBC’s “The Sing Off” a cappella sensation VoicePlay, is unlike any
theatrical experience available today, recreating the orchestrated
sound of an entire musical production with nothing but the human voice,
and will present for Darke County High School students January
19-22. Arts In Education artists are generally in residence for a
week as they tour all of the eight public school districts in Darke
County. These programs are open to the public; contact the DCCA
office for more information.
DCCA’s 2015-2016 Artist Series continues with VoicePlay in concert at
Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville on Saturday, January 23.
VoicePlay began as a street corner barbershop act before evolving into
an internationally acclaimed touring sensation. The group takes the
timeless sound of vocal music, and turns it into an amazing stage show,
moving between eras and styles and incorporating hilarious on-stage
theatrics, ultimately producing the orchestrated sound of an entire
musical using nothing but the human voice. Fans of pop, rock, doo-wop,
rhythm and blues, and jazz are all drawn to contemporary a cappella
groups; a cappella music has officially hit the mainstream, and is
popular with listeners of all ages. Curtain time for the show is 8 p.m.
Tickets for the January 23 show by VoicePlay cost $20 and student
tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased through the DCCA office
(937) 547-0908, located within Greenville Public Library, as well as
online at www.CenterForArts.net. If any remain by show time, tickets
will also be available at the door prior to the
performance.
