VHCC residents enjoy
gardening
Long-term care residents at Versailles Health Care Center, a skilled
nursing and rehabilitation center, recently enjoyed an afternoon of
gardening. They planted tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers,
and onions in gardening pots located in the beautiful courtyard.
Delores Williams, long-term care resident, who helped plant the
vegetables, said with a big smile, “I used to have about five vegetable
gardens and many flower beds at home and I love to garden. They
offered me gloves, but I said no way. I really enjoyed getting my
hands dirty again!”
“No matter what your age or where you live, it is so fun to garden,”
said Kristy Earick, CEO/Administrator of Versailles Health Care
Center. “Growing up, I can remember gardening with my
Grandpa and the great moments that we shared. The social
interaction of gardening is so rewarding, not mention that gardening is
a great physical activity and builds strength and endurance. It
can also relieve stress and lower blood pressure. Not only is it
a great way to stay healthy but the veggies from the garden will taste
great too!”
