Shopping at Friends of DCP Gift Shop
The Friends of Darke County Parks invites everyone to do their holiday
shopping at the gift shop located inside the Nature Center at Shawnee
Prairie Preserve. It has everything you need for the birder, hiker, or
general nature lover on your list, as well as many fun and educational
items for the kids. The wide selection of books, including many nature
field guides, is sure to impress, and the birdfeeders are big sellers
this time of year. The rugs and coasters are woven by volunteers, and
the hand forged hooks and key chains are made by volunteer blacksmiths
at the park. For the history lover on your list, there are many
different types of historical books and games, and the family
fashionista would love a handmade scarf or pair of nature themed
earrings. Younger visitors to the gift shop always marvel at the toy
animals, books, and colorful stones for sale. If someone on your list
is already a member of the Friends organization, you can even get them
a new polo shirt to show off their support.
Item prices in the gift shop range from as little as 25 cents to $35,
with most items being in the $3 to $10 range. For those just out
enjoying the park and the nature center, the gift shop also has water
and soft drinks, both diet and regular, available for purchase. The
gift shop hours are from 9am to 5pm Monday through Saturday and closed
on Sunday. The Friends of the Darke County Parks Gift Shop will also
have special holiday hours during the Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland
event on December 5th from 6pm-9pm. For any questions about the gift
