Empowering’s
After School Program presented to Kiwanis
Bob Robinson, Empowering Darke County Youth Program Coordinator, spoke
about the after-school program held at Darke County's Edison State
campus. Licensed tutors and volunteers tutor at-risk students, provide
help with homework, provide educational activities and games, plus
snacks and a movie. It's offered 5 days a week from 4 to 6 pm. 20 high
school student volunteers give 10 hours per week for up to 58 kids a
day. Greenville Schools provide bus service from K-4 to Edison. It's a
free program and no one is turned away. The individual attention allows
students to catch up with their class. Volunteers and donations are
needed. Three student volunteers who spoke are Scout Meyer, Nicole
Berry, and Mac Kirk.
