gets funding from Versailles Foundation, Booher Awards
The Versailles Foundation along with the Ruth & Emerson Booher
advised Fund for Versailles has recently donated to Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Shelby and Darke County. This funding will be
used by Big Brothers Big Sisters to aid in the after school “Big
Buddies” program that is offered at Versailles Schools.
Currently, there are over 500 children served in Shelby and Darke
County through both the community based and after school programs in
both counties that are served.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County is a nonprofit
United Way organization whose mission is to develop and mature quality
relationships between children and volunteers. The relationship
is meant to guide each child towards becoming a confident, competent,
and caring individual.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby and Darke County is excited to
announce that another great year is in the works for the Big Buddies
after-school program. This is the seventeenth year the program
has been in place. The Buddies program is a nine-month commitment
where high school freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors volunteer
to work with and mentor elementary aged children two times per
month. During these meetings the high school students, under the
supervision of Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, work with one or two
children on different educational and recreational activities.
The program continues to promote social and educational enhancing
activities, as well as safety. If you are or know of a high school
freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior that would be a great role model

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke county is now busy
gearing up for The Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser will be held Friday
and Saturday, March 3 & 4, 2017, at Bel-Mar Lanes in Sidney and
