“X-Force Think Big” Program ends with Success!
The Big Brothers Big Sisters 2016/17 X-Force Think BIG program
concluded its’ very first year of programming. During the last session
they celebrated with pizza, learning soft skills, and certificates of
completion.
The program paired adult mentors with Sidney Middle School students.
The “matches” met twice a month throughout the school year. Once a
month they learned what skills are needed to find a job and how to be
successful in it. They also learned what their strengths were and what
profession they may be interested in. The second visit of the month was
held at local businesses so they had the opportunity to apply the
skills learned in a hands-on environment. These businesses included the
Sidney Library, Sidney Body Carstar, US Bank, and Edison Community
College. All activities are planned and supervised by the Big Brothers
Big Sisters staff.
The mentors for the first year’s program included: Chad Arkenberg from
the City of Sidney, Kelli Barker from Tradewinds Financial, Jenny Bruns
from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Gordon Buchler from Ohio Valley
Integration Services, Inc., Renee David & Sharon Maurice from
Sidney City Schools, and Tonya Slonaker from Russia schools.
Big Brother Big Sisters of Shelby and Darke County is a nonprofit
United Way agency and an affiliate organization of Big Brothers Big
Sisters of America.
Any adult interested in becoming a mentor for the X-Force Think Big
program for the 2017-2018 school year should call the office at
492-7611 or 547-9622. The agency is also still in need of local
adult volunteer mentors as well for the community based program.
If you have a couple of hours to spare two times a month we have
volunteer opportunities for you.
