Friends
of DCP Receive American Red Cross Certifications
The Darke County Park District is an authorized Red Cross training
provider for the county, and on the evenings of April 18th and 20th the
Friends of Darke County Parks received their American Red Cross
certifications in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and
using an automated external defibrillator.
After the park staff received their recertification, the Friends of the
Park approached them about doing another class for the volunteers. They
believe that having the American Red Cross training is very important
because they come into contact with thousands of park visitors
annually. Park district director and certified instructor, Roger Van
Frank led the class for six park volunteers who are always a very
active presence at park functions. He was pleased with the interest
from the volunteers and said he will continue to offer the class
annually for those who missed it and to maintain the current
certifications.
The Darke County Park District will also be offering an American Red
Cross class to the general public this summer. On August 11th through
the 13th, they will host the American Red Cross: Wilderness First Aid
class. Registration is required, and there is a $159 class fee. Current
American Red Cross CPR certification is required prior to attending the
course.
First Aid and CPR training are crucial for all to know and understand,
but what happens when you’re out of range of a cellular tower and no
one can be called to help? During this workshop, participants will dive
deep into the first aid care required in a backcountry situation. The
class will begin with a classroom session Friday evening and will meet
again on Saturday morning to continue the training. The workshop will
conclude on Sunday at 1pm after an overnight camping experience in the
park. Spending the days outdoors, students will work through real-world
scenarios as they walk the trails encountering workstations along the
way.
For more information about the class or to register, please call the
Nature Center at (937) 548-0165 or email info@darkecountyparks.org.
