Dental
Assistant Alumnus says MVCTC “Best Decision I Ever Made”
Englewood, Ohio -- Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) 2016
Dental Assistant completer, Taylor Tucker, is attending Sinclair and
working with MAK Dental Group. She thanks MVCTC for allowing her
to find this much success by the age of 20.
Tucker, who plans to be a licensed dental hygienist, shared, “Deciding
to attend MVCTC has hands down been one of the best decisions I have
ever made for myself. I developed nothing but positive experiences from
CTC, from making many new life-long friends to obtaining my state
certification when I was only 17. MVCTC has also helped me determine
what I wanted my future career to be, and I chose dental hygiene
because I want to be able to have that huge, positive influence on my
patients' overall oral health. I am currently in my first year of the
Dental Hygiene program at Sinclair. Although a lot of hard work,
dedication, and endurance is needed in this program, I love it and it
is already so worth it. The brand new health sciences building just
opened at the start of the fall semester, and it opened up so many more
opportunities for myself, my classmates, and the future dental hygiene
students. During the second half of my senior year, I obtained a job at
MAK Dental Group. I have been employed at that office for almost 2
years now as a Certified Ohio Dental Assistant and also as a Lab
Technician. My current future goals are to pass all of the regional,
state, and national board exams I will have to complete, obtain my
local anesthesia license, as well as my license to practice dental
hygiene. I am set to graduate dental hygiene school when I am just 20
years old. I thank MVCTC, and especially Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Hartman
for giving me a great educational experience and the opportunity to
have a jump start on my career.”
The MVCTC Dental Assistant High School program prepares students to
assist the dentist with chairside dental procedures. During the
students' junior year, they will learn background knowledge to include
but not limited to dental history, dental anatomy, dental terminology,
dental materials, and infection control. Students will also become CPR
and First Aid certified through the American Heart Association. During
the students' senior year, they will prepare for their Certified Ohio
Dental Assistant (CODA) test. When students pass this CODA examination
they will become certified to assist and will earn an Ohio Dental
Radiographers license. The Dental Assistant program participates
in Advanced Placement that allows students to be employed by a local
dentist office during the second semester of their senior year.
This is a Tech Prep program, which means any student meeting the
requirements will earn a $3,000 scholarship to Sinclair.
