Read Across America
by Felicity Lance

On Friday, March 1st, Read Across America took place.  It was a celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and was meant to encourage children to read and have fun.

The theme for this year was, “Grab Your Hat and Read with the Cat.”

East School students had fun by having a  “Crazy Hat Day” and bookmark contest. Students all over America did fun activities or events like that, too.

Read Across America was inspired by Dr. Seuss’ humorous stories.   There are great lessons and humor in most of his books.  Here are a few of our favorites:  Green Eggs and  Ham,  The  Cat  in the  Hat  Comes  Back,  One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Foot Book, Hop on Pop and Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?   You can tell they are funny books  just  by  the titles.

Our teachers, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Baker, said their favorite Dr. Seuss book is  Sneeches,  which  teaches an important lesson about being   happy   with   yourself, and accepting others. Many of Dr. Seuss’ books teach important lessons.  Can you figure out what the lesson is in Horton Hears a Who!?

Try reading some of Dr. Seuss’  books,  and  you can have fun reading!

This is just one article from a newsletter written and published exclusively by East School Fourth Graders under the direction of Edwinna Thomas. It’s a great read! For a downloadable pdf click here
