Empowering
receives grant support for 2019 programs
GREENVILLE - Lydia Schaurer Memorial Fund, Ketrow Foundation and Kroger
Cincinnati Community Donations have each given grants to Empowering
Darke County Youth to help solidify an aggressive program of service to
students struggling in their educational goals this year.
“We can’t thank these organizations enough,” said Bob Robinson,
Empowering Program Coordinator. “Our biggest challenge every year is
obtaining the resources to meet ever increasing requests for help from
the parents and caregivers concerned about their students struggling at
school. It takes full community support, and grants such as these are a
major part of it.”
This is the second year of support from the Lydia Schaurer Memorial
Fund and Ketrow Foundation. Kroger Cincinnati Community Donations has
joined with its support for the first time this year.
“This is our third full year of service to Darke County’s youth, and
each year has been a learning experience and a challenge,” Robinson
added. “Requests for help in our Greenville After School Program have
more than tripled since 2016. We are starting to offer transportation
through Greenville Transit for struggling students who need a ride home
after tutoring. This needs to be expanded, as too many students who
need help are being left out because they have no transportation.
“We also hope to provide a satellite After School Program in another
school district in the next year or two. And we plan to explore the
possibility of offering Summer Tutoring in other Darke County
communities, in addition to our established programs at the Greenville
Public Library and Edison State Community College, Darke County Campus.”
Empowering Darke County Youth needs help from the community, not only
with donations, but also local citizens wanting to help in
administrative, fundraising, marketing or other volunteer capacities.
The organization’s third Annual Meeting takes place March 7, 7 p.m., at
Tribute Funeral Home, Greenville Campus, 1000 North Broadway. It is
open to the public; all interested persons are invited to attend.
