Partnership to celebrate Senior Citizens Day

May is Community Action Partnership Month and Darke County CAP Senior
Assistance Program will celebrate this special occasion by hosting
their annual luncheon on May 24 at the Lighthouse Christian Center,
5256 Sebring-Warner Road, Greenville.
The theme for the event will focus on Community Action services
available to Darke County residents. Doors open at 10am, followed by
welcome remarks, introductions, the Senior Citizen of the Year Award
presentation and lunch. Suggested donation is $2.00 for seniors 60+,
and $7.49 for those under 60. The menu planned is pork loin, mashed
potatoes and gravy, cream corn bake, broccoli salad, roll, butter, 2%
milk, and cake. Coffee will also be available.
Carole Rhodus, Sr. Programs Coordinator, said, “Entertainment this year
includes piano music by Scott Oglesby prior to and during lunch, a
short presentation of fashion show attire by CAP employees modeling
clothes offered by the Clothing Bank, presentation of the Senior
Citizen of the Year Award, and a performance by the East Elementary
Echoes following lunch. Door prizes will also be given. In addition,
this year, there will be various vendors on hand who offer services for
Darke County residents, giving information and answering questions
throughout the day.”
Rhodus said reservations must be made by calling 548-2727 by May 20th.
Due to the high volume of response for the Senior Citizens Day
Luncheon, seniors are asked to sign up prior to the event at the
congregate sites located in Greenville from 8am-4pm, New Madison and
Versailles from11am-12noon. Transportation is available to those who
need it by calling 548-2727.
She added that any Darke County resident, age 60 or older, is
encouraged to attend one of the nutrition sites and participate in the
daily activities Monday through Friday. These sites offer a place for
seniors to socialize with others, have a hot meal, and play cards
and/or bingo, get blood pressure checks, nutrition education, play Wii
games, as well as take short day trips.
