Warmer weather brings much excitement to Darke County with festivals,
events, open houses, artists’ series and activities to get us out of
the house, shedding winter’s heavy coat.
This month of May is full of activities for the entire family. Read on
to learn about unique events taking place in and around Darke County,

April 30 & May 1 - Spring Open House at Bear’s Mill. Two special
events are taking place this first weekend at Historic Bear’s Mill: the
Friends of Bear’s Mill host the annual Spring Open House to kick off
National Preservation Month, Saturday & Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.
Join in the FREE guided tours with the Master Miller, Terry Clark at
12:00, 2:00 and 4:00 both days. This month’s Art at the Mill will
feature internationally-known ceramicist Bill Hunt and one-of-a-kind
furniture pieces crafted by his wife, Liz Hunt, will be paired with
paintings by Belgian-born artist Micheline Daemen. Join in the opening

Saturdays in May - Free Tour of Lowell Thomas House. The Lowell Thomas
House located on the lawn at Garst Museum, 205 N. Broadway, Greenville,
will be open from noon to 4:00 pm each Saturday in May. Admission to
the Lowell Thomas House is free. Regular admission prices apply to tour

Saturdays in May - Free Tour of Pioneer Log House at Shawnee Prairie.
Bring the whole family back to the early 1800’s and visit with our
period-dressed volunteers as they explain their way of life while going
about day-to-day chores. Log House is located behind the Nature Center
at Shawnee Prairie. House is open from 1 to 4 pm. For more information,

May 1 - Afternoon at the Museum. The Versailles Area Historical Society
will host Rex Spencer as the “Frontiersman” on Sunday, May 1, from 2 –
4 pm at the Versailles Area Museum located at 552 S West Street.

May 6 & 7 - The Greatest Show on Dirt returns to Eldora. The World
of Outlaws are set to invade as part of a ‘double-doubleheader’ of
action May 6 & 7 in the Goodyear Outlaw Thunder event! Jac
Haudenschild is the most recent WoO winner at Eldora Speedway and he
will be back to defend victory lane against the best of the Outlaws!

May 7 - Introduction & History of Muzzleloaders at Log House. Learn
where the muzzleloader was developed, how it was used and the different
styles found around the time of Fort Green Ville. Enjoy a chance to
dry-fire a muzzleloader at the Log House at Shawnee Prairie. Reserve

May 12 & 13 - Thrill of the Grill. Take your pick of New York
Strip, Marinated Chicken Breast or Salmon Filet. Sides include baked
potato, vegetables, salad and rolls, desset and a bottle of wine.

May 13 - Runway & Rhythm. Bebop to oldies, pop and dance favorites
while enjoying wine, food and a fashion show all to support Darke
County’s United Way agencies. Call the DCUW at (937) 547-1272 for more

May 15 - Greenville Art Guild Spring Paint Out. Walk the grounds of
Shawnee Prairie Preserve on SR 502 to watch artistics members of the
Art Guild practice their craft. Enjoy a “make-it, take-it” project from

May 20, 21 & 22 - Arcanum Old Fashioned Days. Bring the family for
some good, old-fashioned fun! Enjoy a Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show

May 20, 21 & 22 - Greenville High School 2011 Choir-o-Rama. Tickets
are now on sale for this spectacular show at the High School ticket
booth from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm daily. All seating is reserved: $7 in

May 28 & 29 - Smokefest Rod and Custom Nationals @ Eldora. Enjoy a
car, vendor and swap meet at Eldora Speedway, Sat, 9 am to 6 pm and
